Stereotypes
Stereotypes may seem like something random to consider as a root cause for human exploitation when it comes to medical research. But it does seem like something pretty common when it comes to the researches choosing who to choose as their test subjects. A prime example could be in the Puerto Rican Pill trial. They decided to try the birth control pills on the woman because it was supposedly a “Cultural” thing for all Puerto Rican women to have lots of children, when in fact it was a very big stereotype for the researchers to see all Puerto-Rican woman like that as well as poor and uneducated. Stereotypes and generalizing could be considered root causes because they are a big contribution to what kept the exploitation going.
