Applied Psychology
Psychology is the study of the human mind and how it works. This field of social science is important to humanity because it is important to know how the human mind works. The human mind is what basically controls us, so by knowing how the human mind works we are basically able to learn how it is that we humans work. One of the approaches that I think connects the best to my topic of exploitation of people for medical research is the psychodynamic approach. The psycho-dynamic approach focuses on the unconscious motivations as well as attempts to resolve conflicts between personal needs and social requirements. In other words, by trying to understand the problems that go on and the people linked to them and what caused them, an effective solution can be reached. I say that the psychodynamic approach fits the best because if there would be a good look taken on the people that are being exploited and how wrong it is and the need for more medical knowledge then maybe it would be possible for there to be a more rational and ethical solution.
Another psychological approach that goes with my fire project issue and topic would be the cognitive approach. The cognitive approach basically focuses on the thoughts and processes that cause problematic emotions and behaviors. I believe this fits in perfectly with my topic because by taking a look at my issue, it is visible that because some people believe that human exploitation for medical research is okay, it goes on to cause other problems like major exploitation and issues. One more psychological approach that I could apply with my fire project issue would be the biological approach. The biological approach focuses on the body’s mechanisms and how it works and reacts to certain things. I chose the biological approach to my project simply because it seems that that is why the exploitation happens, to see how the body reacts to certain medicine or treatments.
The field to psychology can be used positively to change the world. First off, the field of psychology tells us a lot about us, how our body and mind works and why we act certain ways. It helps us learn a lot about us in general. I definitely have so many major takeaways that I was able to acquire from my experience of taking my AP Psychology class. I gained an extreme amount of knowledge that I know I would have not received if it weren’t for that class or Mr. Hernandez. The most important and probably most interesting things I learned were about the brain and how it works. My favorite unit would probably have to be the one about dreams.
