Reflection
Choosing a topic was actually a lot harder than I had pictured it to be. I wanted it to be something I was really interested in because I know to Social Justice High School, the fire project is a big deal and we would end up spending a lot of time working on it. There were a lot of things that had caught my attention but I was being very picky about it. One day, in my AP Biology class, Ms. Nelson was talking to us about some HeLa cells and I became immediately intrigued. She said a phrase “exploitation of people in medical research”, which became my topic. I chose it because it’s something important that I was very unaware of and I didn’t know much of so it would be very interesting to learn more about it through the project. I don’t know exactly how many hours I spent working on this project, but it was definitely a lot more time consuming than I had anticipated it to be. Some of my experiences when writing the paper where that I would look at the word minimum and think to myself “wow, really? That’s a lot!”, but before I knew it I had already passed the limit. I was actually pretty bad at managing my time, honestly. I didn’t use class time I was given as much as I should have which therefore led to some procrastination. I didn’t work with a partner on this but I did learn that my teachers were a bunch of help. My goals for this project are soon to be carried out. I challenged myself by choosing a topic that I didn’t know much about. I would like my audience to know that I was actually behind on what I should’ve been working on but I managed to pull through. If I would give myself a grade I would probably give myself a B+ because I worked really hard on this but like always, there is room for improvement. I feel like I mastered the skills of gathering information but I need to work on my skills of analyzing. I am the most proud of my contexts that I gathered because the most difficult part was finding information for the local part. After some searching and asking for help I was actually able to find a good amount of information. I would have approached this differently by maybe managing my time differently and I would change my action to have already done it by the time I present. Unfortunately, I was limited on time. I think I did a good job at answering my question. The advice I would give the students for next year would be to be careful on how you manage your time and to choose a topic that you are actually interested in!
